What is a SERP preview tool?

A SERP (Search Engine Results Page) preview tool lets you see exactly how your web page will appear in Google search results before you publish. It shows you whether your title tag gets truncated, if your meta description is too long or too short, and how your URL breadcrumbs display.

This matters because your search snippet is often the first impression someone has of your website. A truncated title or missing description can mean fewer clicks — even if your page ranks well.

What's the ideal title tag length?

Google displays approximately 580 pixels of title text on desktop, which works out to roughly 50–60 characters depending on the letters used. Wide characters like "W" and "M" take more space than narrow ones like "i" and "l". This tool estimates pixel width alongside character count so you can optimize for both.

As a rule of thumb, keep titles under 60 characters. Put your most important keywords and the most compelling language at the beginning, since that's what users see even if the rest gets cut off.

What's the ideal meta description length?

Meta descriptions can display up to ~920 pixels on desktop, which is around 150–160 characters. On mobile, Google sometimes shows slightly more. However, Google frequently rewrites descriptions based on the search query, so your exact description isn't guaranteed to appear. Still, writing a strong meta description increases the chance Google uses it and improves your click-through rate.

Aim for 120–155 characters. Include your target keyword naturally, describe what the page offers, and end with a clear reason to click.

Tips for better Google snippets

Front-load your keywords. Put the most important words at the beginning of both title and description. Users scan quickly.

Write for humans, not just search engines. Your snippet competes with 9 other results on the page. Make it specific and compelling.

Use numbers and specifics. "7 Templates" is more clickable than "Templates." Concrete details signal value.

Match search intent. If someone searches "how to," your title should promise a how-to. If they search "best," show a comparison.

Test with this tool. Paste your actual title and description, toggle between desktop and mobile, and check the character counts before publishing.
